At Cal Poly, students have access to a variety of mental health services to support their wellbeing. The university recognizes the importance of addressing mental health concerns and has made efforts to provide resources to students in need.
One of the primary services offered is counseling. Cal Poly SLO has a counseling center staffed by licensed therapists who offer individual and group therapy sessions. These sessions are free of charge to students and can help with a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and more.
In addition to counseling, Cal Poly SLO offers workshops and events related to mental health. These events are designed to provide students with tools and strategies to manage their mental health and wellbeing. Topics covered in these workshops include stress management, mindfulness, and self-care. For students who need more intensive treatment, Cal Poly SLO has a partnership with a local hospital that provides inpatient and outpatient mental health services. This partnership ensures that students receive the appropriate level of care for their needs.
Mental Health is just as important as our physical health. You Matter and you are not alone, you have a community of people to support you.

Group Therapy is when a group of 8-10 students meet with 1-2 therapists for 60-90 minutes. We offer a variety of groups including Therapy groups (i.e., support groups, psycho-educational groups, interpersonal process groups) and Drop-In groups. Some groups are time-limited with a specific focus, while others are broader and open-ended.

This is an experience in which a student meets with a person trained in providing psychotherapy (talk therapy) to address mental health symptoms, explore personal or relational challenges, understand and support one's social identities, discover solutions to conflicts or issues, or to work though traumatic experiences. The goal is often to heal, to promote new patterns of behavior, to gain insight, or be more effective as a human and a student. There is NO charge for individual therapy at Cal Poly – your student health fees cover this service

A free, confidential, one-on-one, virtual drop-in to informally consult with a Counseling Services mental health provider. Let’s Talk is not therapy, but you can talk about anything on your mind, share something that recently took place, or ask questions/seek guidance (e.g., how to help a friend, how to seek services, wanting to learn more about a coping skill).
Through Let’s Talk you can be directed to zoom links such as
Let’s Talk: About Anything and Everything which is designed for students with marginalized identities who want to meet with therapists committed to inclusion, cultural humility, and to doing their own internal work to challenge cultural and/or privileged biases.
Let’s Talk: Undocu Talk which is a space for students who are undocumented, from mixed status families, and their allies who want to speak with therapists (Ana Cabeza, PsyD and Diana Menendez, PsyD) who have gone through UndocuAlly training and work closely with the Dream Center.
